Two Sketchbooks Done! ✨A Look Inside My Creative Playground

Hello everyone! 

This week, I’m excited to share two sketchbooks I’ve finally completed. Sketchbooks are my artistic playground. I’m able to noodle around chasing ideas and dreaming up all sorts of worlds.

Sketchbook #1: The Finished Pieces

The first sketchbook was a year-long challenge to draw what I considered a finished piece on each page. No rough pieces. No half-baked doodles. Wow, was this intimidating! It wasn’t until I embraced the intuitive drawing process that the pages started flowing.

A key lesson? Limiting my tools. Sticking to a handful of supplies eliminated second-guessing and kept me focused on creating rather than deliberating.

Sketchbook #2: Rebellious Watercolors

My second book includes a mixed-media sketchbook filled with watercolors, inks, and the messy wet things I never touch. And…well, I remembered why I usually avoid them! It’s not that watercolors are bad. I adore what others do with them. It’s just my brain and paint don’t sync. It doesn’t bring joy.

Still, this sketchbook was far from wanted. I played with a water-based technique and discovered some fun textures.

Will I return to wet media soon? Probably not. My markers are calling my name, and I want to wander that way anyway. I’m grateful for the detour. I like what’s comfortable.
