The Design of Spirit of Unity: Embracing Diversity and Inclusion

In our last newsletter, we shared our excitement about participating in the Pride Angels Backerkit campaign, led by a friend of ours UltraInfinite. The power of unity and standing together for equality and mutual respect within the LGBTQ+ community is important. We couldn’t be happier to contribute the pin, “Spirit of Unity”, to symbolize our support.

Today I would like to dive into the behind-the-scenes look at the design process around “Spirit of Unity”. We wanted to create a pin that showed inclusion and coming together. To best represent ourselves, we chose to take a spin on a piece that includes elements of the Gay-Straight Alliance flag.

As always I like to create thumbnails of rough ideas.

One area I’ve learned to embrace is feedback. We shared the thumbnails among a group of friends and ultimately decided on moving forward with the sun and moon embracing. 

I felt this idea best represented the unity that the Gay-Straight Alliance aims to achieve.

For this pin, I wanted to keep it simple yet unique. All the black areas will be metal, while the white areas will be enamel. I’ve experimented with this concept before with our pin bazaar Wizard Cat pin. I love the simple and clean look it creates.
