A Little Bit of Sparkle ✨ And A Lot of Art!

Hello everyone! And a special welcome to all those joining us for the first time from SacAnime Winter 2024! Today I want to go over the journey that is creating for Arisia!

Arisia is a sci-fi and fantasy convention found in Cambridge, MA that hosts a fabulous art show. This year I decided to send mostly original pieces. We talked about some of these a few newsletters ago. I thought it would be fun to share a glimpse of the pieces in progress.

The inspiration for these pieces comes from an artist named Moon. They challenged themselves to create a 6x6-inch drawing every day. I love the charm of their simple pieces and square format, so I explored it myself.

As always first, we started by creating a bunch of thumbnails. Like…a LOT of thumbnails.

After I got all the good ideas down, I cut Bristol paper to size and picked my favorite thumbnails to bring to life.

Then came the fun part: inking! This was the perfect opportunity to bring out my shimmering fountain pen inks. They are brimming with magical effects and are best seen in person. One of the inks used is a dazzling sparkly blue calligraphy ink. I had to apply it using a brass nibbed dip pen.

And finally, we can see the finished pieces. They all have bits of shiny in them, but pictures do not do them justice!

The pieces will be displayed at the Arisia Art Show on January 17 - 20 where I hope they find loving homes. I’d love to hear your favorites. If any make it home, they may just make it onto the shop update.
