✨The Sketchbook Bestiary: Part Squid, Part Dragon. The Dragon Kraken!

This week’s attempt at designing a dragon-kraken hybrid spiraled into something… unexpectedly adorable.

Let me back up.

I’ve been watching DrawSessions’ tentacle tutorials while sketching because Ryan keeps pestering me about designing an octopus creature. Fine, Ryan. Fine. So I dug in deep studying Squids, octopuses, and even a flamboyant cuttlefish!

While immersed in all these appendages, I got to thinking. What if Kraken but dragonified?

It’s harder than it sounds. I had lots of questions. For one, where do tentacles even go? And how do you merge a body built for flight with one that’s basically a sentient noodle pile? 

I eventually landed on this guy.

And…well. He’s precious.♥ Which is okay. It’s not great. A kraken should inspire respect! But alas, I’ll have to return to the drawing board.

Origins Game Fair is coming June 18-22!
